20240418 Thursday The Night Shift

20240418 Thursday The Night Shift:  this night shift has become a big storm chase. I start out in Westport and head north from there. I go to Oak Park South high school has good advantage of the western approaches of Kansas City. A nice roll cloud came in with lots of lightning and some good wind. I duck under the awning of Quiktrip to protect the car from hail, which never showed. then I had south and do our live shots as the second wave of storms is coming into downtown. I am dispatch to go to Weston Missouri, where a tree fell into a retirement community building. Elderly lady is lucky to be alive as she moved at the last moment out of her bed to the couch. The tree fell on her bed. then head back and go to topic. I get some nice glimpses of the rain coming in. There’s lots of rain. I go home to be greeted by my doggies.

The gust front of the first wave reaches us in Westport.

I station myself at Oak Park South High School.

Awesome roll cloud…

To escape the possible hail I find an awning to hide under.

First sign of tree damage driving south on MO 9 coming into North Kansas City.

Second wave arriving while we are live downtown Kansas City.

Weston, Missouri Storm Damage

A big old tree falls upon a retirement center.

We are told an elder woman barely missed death when she moved from her bed to the couch due to the storm bothering her.  The big branch landed on her bed wher she was just sleeping.

More damage on Schaback Avenue in rural Platte County.
